PAYROLL SPECIALIST
Location: Appleton, WI.
Job type: Long-Term Contract
Our client, a global EPC Firm, is hiring a Payroll Specialist for a long-term contract in Appleton, WI.
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing union payroll, reports, and government taxes. Supports the day-to-day functions of the payroll team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Coordinate with field management staff to collect union new hire paperwork. Ensure information is complete and accurate. Follow up on any issues or missing information.
* Create union employee records in the ERP system, updating employment data or status changes. Ensure severance, termination, and disciplinary forms are reflected appropriately.
* Review field time entry reports for potential errors in hours, union, pay class, and per diem. Follow up with site teams and address as appropriate prior to payroll processing.
* Process weekly union payroll and off-cycle checks in a timely manner by importing time details and validating entries created. Confirm calculation of earnings, deductions, garnishments, union liabilities, and taxes. Ensure paychecks are distributed on time.
* Prepare monthly union remittances. Using system reports, calculate amounts, and submit payment requests, ensuring reconciliation between liabilities accrued and payments. Match payments with labor details and remit to appropriate funds.
* Prepare reports, check for accuracy, and resolve discrepancies as part of business recordkeeping and compliance activities.
* Respond to and resolve any union employee payroll inquiries.
* Process employment verifications and unemployment claims by the deadline outlined. Escalate unemployment hearing notices to Human Resources.
* Submit new hire reports to state agencies.
* Process child support and other court orders as necessary. REQUIREMENTS
* Superior attention to detail
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
* Excel knowledge/experience formulas, lookups, pivot tables, etc.
* Must have a high school degree and min 3 years of payroll experience
* Must have the ability to use Excel to manipulate and analyze data.
* Must have excellent organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
* Experience processing construction payroll preferred.
* Experience with Oracle or other large software vendors preferred.
